Yesterday I celebrated my birthday with my family and had a marvelous day! I always wake up in a good mood each fifth day of January, so I immediately put on my makeup, got dressed and headed downstairs, to be greeted with this note on the kitchen counter from my Sophie:
What a delightful child. I can't find any of the plates or forks, but at least they're put away.
We went to Texas Roadhouse for dinner - mostly bc it's a loud, boisterous place, so if the girls start to bicker, no one will notice - and the food was fantastic, as usual. One of the girls' favorite topics to bicker over is who gets the cinnamon butter that the server brings to our table with the hot rolls. It's quite fascinating how possessive these young ladies can get over a few small tubs of this stuff. It usually goes like this:
SOPHIE: "I call butter."
SABRINA: "No, there's enough for all of us, so calm down."
BREANNA: "I wanna go back to Lincoln."
SOPHIE: "I CALLED BUTTER, SO GIVE IT HERRRRE!!"
SABRINA: "Sophie, you can't call the butter. Everyone gets some for their rolls, so I'm going to ration it out on each person's plate."
BREANNA: "I wanna go back to Lincoln."
SOPHIE: "Moooooooooommm, I called butter! That's not fair!! They're going to eat all the butter bc Sabrina is a loser and Breanna just likes to eat butter, in case you can't tell, and I called it first!!"
SABRINA: "I knew this would happen. Mom, please do something."
BREANNA: "What do you mean, 'you can tell I like butter'?"
MIKE: (staring up at the ceiling, knowing he's about to spend $71.98 on dinner for a gaggle of girls who are really only interested in going to a steak house for the butter.)
ME: (Quietly eating all of the butter unnoticed, hoping the girls continue to argue so I can also finish off all the rolls.)
When our server arrived last night, Breanna was on top of her game, and quickly asked, "Would you mind bringing us lots of butter? We have butter fights in our family." The server complied and brought out more than enough for the 5 of us. Notice the additional basket behind the first one.
The remainder of our dinner together went relatively smoothly.
When we got home, I opened a few presents... I love Milk Duds. I'm married to one.
And then it was time for cake! Sophie's favorite part is arranging the candles and lighting them...
Happy Birthday to meeee!
Let's play that game where you compare two pictures side-by-side and notice what's different bw the two...
That disturbs me.
Sabrina took this picture of what the top of our dining room table looked like. She had blown up lots of balloons and taped them to top of the table so they wouldn't blow around onto the floor where the dogs could pop them.
After presents, Sabrina decided we would all play Catchphrase, which I'd never played before. Breanna knew how to play it, but the rest of us needed the rules explained. Sabrina got a bit testy during the explanation bc we simply weren't getting it. Sorry, but my stomach was churning like butter for some reason, so I couldn't concentrate.
Sophie likes it when Sabrina gets agitated.
The whole day was a lot of fun (we had also visited Frieda in the hospital, where she sang the Birthday Song to me, as she has done every year for the past 20 years), and I'd like to thank my family for that. I love you all with my whole heart!
Btw, before I go, here's a photo I'd like to show you. Notice anything dreadful about it?
No, it's not Breanna's balled-up fist. I don't even want to ask what that is about. I'd like you to look at the background. Isn't it fun to hear people say to you, "It's your birthday! Relax today and just let the house go! After all, it's YOUR day!" Well, this is what happens when you let the house go just bc it's your birthday (or Mother's Day). Where, I ask, are those same well-wishers the next day, when it's time for clean-up? Where is Sophie and her sweet note?
It doesn't matter. It was a lovely day.
LOLOL Oh how fun! Jerry & I went to TX Roadhouse Monday evening, but we didn't bicker over the butter...mainly because she brought us each our own tub! ;o) Did you have to ride the saddle? Happy birthday sweet friend!! :o))

Happy Belated Birthday! Your posts are always so entertaining, and this one is hilarious. With 3 kiddos of my own, I can totally relate :)
And I totally hear you when they say "Just let it go. Don't worry about it." Cuz I get to worry about it the next day, lol ;)

Butter brawl is too funny - probably more so to us hearing it second hand.
It sounds like you had a wonderful day!
Happy Birthday, Paulette!

I know how Sophie feels, because whenever I try to share anything with my husband, he has it gobbled down before I can even lift my utensil!
Happy Birthday Paulette! May you get lots of sparkly crowns for your hair!
