Last night we headed over to Cody's neighborhood for his family's Annual July 4th Blowout, and we were not disappointed. Cody has a large family - and they have lots of friends - so the party ended up with about 200 attending. Besides all the food, a dj, and a pool, Cody told us that his family spent about $3000 on fireworks, which is pretty par-for-the-course for them. (Egads!) Here are a few moments from the evening, which was rather cool and rainy, but these folks don't let any of that silly stuff stand in the way. :) The party must go on!
Cody and Brea were sitting right in front of me watching the fireworks show, so I thought I'd take their picture. I didn't have a tripod, so the clarity isn't perfect (try holding a camera extremely still for 15 full seconds while M80's are going off and vibrating the whole street), but it's still my favorite photo of the night...
After the party, we drove back home and Sophie and Mike joined some other neighborhood kids to put on a show of their own. I remember being so young and my dad would light the sparklers for us, and it was as thrilling to me then as it was to Sophie last night. It's so nice to know that some things haven't become boring over time.
I hope you had just as much fun as we did, whether you stayed at home and watched fireworks from your porch, had a backyard bbq, or just sat on the couch stitching, wishing the dogs in the neighborhood would stop howling - and that your own pets would stop quaking in fear and come out from under the couch.
I think we'll do our own backyard bbq next year.. I missed all the cooking, believe it or not! (And Cody's family has decided to take next year off, bc after 3 years in a row of putting on this kind of party, I don't blame them for needing the recovery time!) I don't think we'll be doing a keeping-up-with-the-Jones' thing, however. I've already warned Cody's uncle - the Godfather of Pyrotechnics - to stay away from Mike when the fireworks stands open next year!
Looks like you all had a great time! That's something that can't happen around here -- fireworks are illegal here. Doesn't stop the fireworks from going off, but they can't be so spectacular. I love that picture you took of Breanna and Cody! And Sophie -- the water princess! Like my son! The water prince! lol!

fireworks are illegal within the city limits here too but not out in the county. but since its been so dry here - no rain - we were under a burn ban. but that didn't stop the idiots on my street either. :(
i have to nurse two crazed dogs while the fire works were going up. the one barks his head off and i think the pup was tramatized by the noise. she was shaking still when i went to bed.
oh, joy and i have this to look forward to in 6 mos. for new yrs. eve.
i'm just glad no homes were set on fire last night!
great shots tho of the party and of the kids! :)
