I tried a Kiwi for the first time. Loved it! Wasn't sure if you were supposed to eat the skin or not, but I peeled it off, just to be safe.

Got a couple of the new Cake Pops that Starbucks came out with. I've made my own Cake Pops from Bakerella's website for Sophie's birthday last year, and these tasted the same. Not something I have to have again, bc I don't care for the texture of them.

When I returned home from dropping off Soph to school, it was spitting rain and very, very cold. I needed something to bring the gloomy house some cheer, so I dragged out my cookbooks, searching for a scone recipe. I ran across a spicy gingerbread version, so that's what I went with. The flavor was wonderful, but I'm wondering if the gluten-free flour had anything at all to do with their being a bit too crumbly. Regardless, I forced myself to eat two of them, and found that the weather didn't much matter any more. :)

Because I'm gluten-intolerant, I've been experimenting with gluten-free flours in my baking - and not confessing any of it to my family. This is a lemon-coconut pound cake (originally from Southern Living) made with King Arthur gluten-free flour. My husband told me to never make it again - bc he can't stop eating it. ;)

I will probably be posting this recipe to my Four Seasons Cafe blog this week, so watch for it! It's delicious, even if you don't care for coconut!

Every year my mother brings over cupcakes for my girls for Valentine's Day. Or is it Easter? Maybe both. Either way, my gluten-intolerant self isn't supposed to have them. See that empty space where one used to be? Well crud-it-all, I had to have one. I've already got the couch good and ready and the coffee set to brew for later,when I'm in a fetal position and need something to make me feel better.

Other than a slight sharpen from TRA, I left this image SOOC. In my endeavor to learn how to view and work with light, I found it interesting how much less appealing artificial light is when compared to natural - in the same image. The cupcakes on the right are being illuminated by a small flourescent kitchen light, while the chocolate cupcakes on the left are being lit by a bright window. I realize the vanilla cupcakes, being yellow, would naturally look somewhat warmer than the darker ones, but their icing is all the same color.

The only bad thing about my studying this photograph so hard is that I'm now wanting to eat that cupcake directly behind the empty space in the container, which is the exact cupcake I put the focal point on.

Better go add a few pillows to the couch.

I really don't have an obsession with strawberries! I bought this package bc I was making cheesecake for dessert, and I thought they looked pretty on the countertop with the morning sun shining through the blinds.
