Anyone who has ever played a game with Mike knows how competitive he is. He will do anything to win - which includes breaking the cardinal rule of Pictionary: you are NOT to write words to help your partner figure out what you're drawing.
I do believe he was trying to get Sabrina to figure out the word "Winter." And his pencil accidentally wrote "brr" to indicate extreme cold.
Most of the time I have to marvel at Mike's uncanny ability to win this game, bc his drawings are.. well... ridiculous. I just don't get it.
Exhibit A: The word being played is "Swan."
Here was my drawing, with Sophie as my partner:
And with Sabrina as Mike's partner, here was his drawing:
Sabrina and Mike won.
Exhibit B: Dentist.
I don't have my drawing to compare, but trust me when I say it was reminiscent of a Norman Rockwell painting. Compared to this, that is.
Sabrina and Mike won.
Exhibit C: (Just try to guess.)
Leave your guess in the comments field of this post, and of those who guess correctly, there will be a drawing for one free (already released) Plum Street Samplers chart of their choice. In the spirit of Pictionary, you can guess as many times as you like before time runs out, which is at noon on Sunday. (And you don't even have to post this contest on your blog to be eligible!) The drawing will be held either Sunday afternoon or Monday (one never knows when I can get to the computer these days!).
Hurry up! Time's running out!
Here is another one of Mike's magnificent illustrations:
The chosen word is "Dog Sled."
Okay, that one wasn't too badly done. Except his dogs look more like people.
One of my favorite drawings was by Sophie, whose word was "Dr. Seuss."
That brought a smile to my face. :)
I leave you with one final drawing by my ever-loving husband. Before I show it to you, I should let you know that my initials are, in fact, "PMS." I believe the word he was given was "Graveyard," and I'm not too sure I appreciate the first images that he thought of.
My only question is, why 1999? Does he wish I'd been gone for the last ten years? Would he have preferred to spend the last ten years mushing people harnessed to a dog sled? 'Tis a mystery.
And you guys thought he was cute.
He and Sabrina ended up winning the whole deal, and Sophie insisted on switching partners for the next round. When Sabrina looked suddenly alarmed at having me as her new partner, I suddenly felt like the last one picked for a schoolyard game of kickball.
Fine then. Don't be surprised if I draw your dinner instead of cook it. After all, I apparently need the practice.
Don't forget to leave your guess before Sunday-noon!

Paulette, I know this is far too late to qualify for the contest, but it's been ages since I've caught up on your blog and I just couldnt' resist a guess. Could it possibly be the Tooth Fairy, lol?
Bigs hugs, (I read from the most recent post backwards, so I know you're going to be needing them soon.)

Ok, I don't know how I got back into the time of "now," but I guess I wasn't too late after all!! :)

My first thought was Ronald Reagan! I don't know why!!

I guess a mouse. Loved this post, by the way, especially your line about drawing dinner instead of cooking it. I laughed out loud at that.
Posted by: Danielle | November 13, 2009 at 01:16 PM
OK, my guess is a monkey!

You're very brave to play board games...I always hated them. I loved card games though. I was very good at gin rummy...even as a kid...and would scream triumphant all the time. I suppose it wasn't very fun for my competition though. lol
I am going to guess a bat...like the scary flying around at Halloween kind.

Yeah, i thought it was a tooth-fairy, too. Though, because the other word was dentist (which somehow=tooth), I didn't think you'd "give it away" with such a built-in hint.
So, I tried to think of something else: "Shovel-Fairy"? "Spade Fairy"?

I see big ears, I think Prince Charles, so my guess is Prince Charles.

I don't know where this is coming from but the first thing in my mind when I look at that "drawing" is cow???

Good God, could be anything! My guess is Mickey Mouse. I hate board games too and my nieces and nephews have a closet filled, no joke, floor to ceiling with them.

A tooth and wings? What else could it be but the Tooth Fairy. That was my husband's Halloween costume, BTW!!
Posted by: Jennifer | November 13, 2009 at 01:50 PM
Is it "tooth fairy"
Ok, I really want to be right to win one of your wonderful patterns, but if I'm right, it will only encourage Mike that his drawings really are good (has he ever seen a swan b4?)
Oh, I want to come and join in family game nite! I just love, love playing games! Anytime I ask my DH to play sequence or yahtzee or risk, I get his "are you stupid" look - sigh! My favorite is playing canasta - I could play that for hours.

I am guessing a bat. But tooth fairy sounds good now that I think about it.....
Posted by: Tammie Lirette | November 13, 2009 at 01:56 PM
I thought tooth fairy too. But I also thought it could be a bat. Batman?
PS My husband's initials are PMS too. But where he's from they call it PMT.

I think it's a bat. LOL Heaven only knows why because he could have done a bat as in baseball too.

We love to play board games. I know this game but in the Dutch version so this will be diffecult to guess afterall I realy don't know how the USA version of this game is, but I will take a change to guest:
devil - tooth fairie - ghost - airplane - butterfly or fly - angel ? - flying.
I give up, can't think of anything else with wings LOL

Hmmm...
A smiling face, big ears.... going to think outside the box and guess 'Music'
Doesn't matter - looks like you had a fun game. Only 2 of us like to play board games in this house and it's hard to get your teeth into a 2person monopoly or yahtzee or scrabble....you need an extra person to gang up on! lol
thanks for sharing your game with us

My first thought with this one was Dumbo. Kinda looks like an elephant with big ears to me!
Posted by: Dianne | November 13, 2009 at 02:22 PM
I would say a boy (Mike?) playing with his X-box or Nintendo. And enjoying it!
as a child I had always enough brothers and sisters to play with. Monopoly was our favourite. We could play it for days!!
Posted by: Ine M | November 13, 2009 at 02:27 PM
Don't know why but my guess is Angel.
Not a game I'd ever play as I can't even draw decent stick men.
Posted by: Angela | November 13, 2009 at 02:40 PM
I'm going with bat.
But I can also see bee, butterfly, and toothfairy. :)
And these probably aren't even remotely close. LOL!

It's a tooth fairy!! (well at least I think that's what it is!)LOL Pictionary is one of my favorite games! My only problem is, I get so tickled while I'm playing, I almost wet my pants!!

I can so see why many think tooth fairy, bat, etc. My mind's eye sees a stingray. You know when you are in an aquarium that has one of those clear tunnels and the stingray swims over top - the "face" you see looks like this drawing.

I am cracking up at all the comments on this blog. (In a good way though!) I was ROFL at Paulette drawing dinner instead of cooking it and I adore that sense of humor in you too BTW.
I keep going back to look at the drawing and think it might be a flying pig - as in when pigs fly! :O Anyway good luck to whoever wins the chart! How generous of you Paulette.
Hugs! Ginny in TX

First thing I thought of was Dumbo the elephant.... Rob has skills very similar to Mike's and yet, he too wins at these kind of games. Go figure!
