It was such a gorgeous day yesterday that I dragged Mike to Lowe's to buy a new grill bc ours went kaput earlier this year. While we were there, I decided I'd treat myself to a fire pit, bc oh-my-goodness, I love roasted marshmallows. And if everyone in my family is nice to me, they may even get to use it too. But they'll need to bring their own poker and bag of marshmallows.
Here is Mike, folding the cover to the fire pit... he assembled the fire pit perfectly, bc he's a rocket scientist, but then he couldn't figure out how to get the cover on, so he just laid it aside. Since I'm careful not to ever insult his intelligence, I waited for him to go in the house before slipping it on.
Mmmmmm.... Brea was at work, and we had fun texting her all about what we were about to have for dinner.
Sabrina had the most fun texting her sister.
Sophie has been pretty sick this past week, and has barely eaten 2 bites of anything. She promised me she'd eat steak if I fixed it though. When she saw the camera, she managed a quick smile for me.. (Mike is in the background, still struggling with that blasted fire pit cover).
...but as soon as she thought the picture was finished, she went back to her sad little self...
(If you've been reading
Sophie's blog lately, you already knew she was sick. And since no one loves Sophie like Sophie does - again, something you've no doubt learned from one of her prior posts - it's good to know that she's doing her best to get better for all of her "followers" out there.)
Btw, here are some pots next to the grill... my dad made the picket planter for me several years ago, and I've always loved it!
This last picture is for you,
Mom. You need to go get some lantana! I put a pot of this on my table on the back porch, and I just love how bright and cheerful it is.
The steaks and sweet corn and cold watermelon were all delicious, and I believe we'll be having a repeat of it tonight - except I'll do bbq chicken instead. Btw, I emphasized "cold" watermelon, bc when I brought it home from the farmer's market and cut it up, Mike immediately grabbed a piece and started eating it. Here's how the conversation went:
Mike: "This watermelon is warm."
Me: "Oh."
Mike: "I mean, it's downright HOT."
Me: "Okay.."
Mike: "Did you, like, microwave this or something?"
Me: "Uh..no. I just got home and it hasn't been in the fridge yet."
Mike: "Yeah, but most people like COLD watermelon. This one is HOT. Why is it hot? I mean, why would you cut up hot watermelon? Don't you like your watermelon cold?"
Me: (silence.)
Mike: "I mean, is it just me, or do most people like their watermelon cold?"
Me: (wondering why he's still eating the scalding watermelon.)
The kids: "Dad, it's been sitting in the sun at the farmer's market."
Mike: "Then why didn't you refrigerate it first before you let me eat it?"
Those of you who have been unfortunate enough to have met me in person now know why I am a little off-kilter. If you'd like to come for dinner tonight though, we're having grilled watermelon and frozen chicken legs.
We just roasted marshmallows and made s'mores a week or so ago. Deee-licious! I posted about it on my blog too. :)

My husband says the same thing. I myself like it cold. Seems to taste better. Poor Sophie, hope she gets better soon. Tummy bugs are the worse!

OMG, Paulette! I almost fell off my chair laughing over your conversation with Mike. It sounds exactly like what my hubby would say. Too, too funny!!!
